Step 2 of 6
Second block
What you should end up with
A matching 1×2×3 block on the right. The middle slice between the blocks stays free: it will come in handy.
How to do it
- Hold the first block in your left hand and do not break it. So only R, r, U and M work here, with no D, F, B or L.
- Do not rotate the cube. These four moves can bring you everything you need.
- First place the bottom edge. Then build the two corner-edge pairs, front and back, in any order.
- A pair goes in with three moves: R or r opens the front slot, U brings the pair in, and R' closes the slot. The back slot is the other way round: R' or r', then U, then R.

Tips
›A first target: the second block in under 22 moves. Then under 19. Experienced solvers need under 16.
›An edge flips only with M, and it enters or leaves the middle slice only with U. That explains nearly every case.
