The Roux method
Blocks instead of layers: two bars on the sides, the corners on top and six edges at the end. Gilles Roux proposed the method in 2003. You never rotate the cube, and the middle slice works like a face of its own.

How it differs
New moves
Formulas read as usual, with four more moves. Tap a letter to see the move on a cube.
MThe middle slice between R and L. It turns the same way as LrR together with the middle sliceuU together with the layer under itEThe middle slice between U and D. It turns the same way as DHow to hold the cube
The diagrams have yellow on top, white on the bottom, green at the front, red on the left and orange on the right. The first block always goes at the bottom left. Start with one block colour: cases are easier to recognise that way. Experienced solvers pick the block colour to suit the scramble.
How many moves per step
Average numbers from Scheopner: the shortest solution and what experience can reach. They are for solvers who pick the block colour to suit the scramble. You will need more at first, and that is fine.
Where this comes from
The steps and formulas come from these guides and the formula database, and every formula was checked on a model cube. Real cubers have not reviewed this section yet: if something is unclear, please tell us.
